As 2010 ticks down its final days, it’s a great delight to say goodbye and good riddance to 12 months which have been pretty horrific but as with every cloud there were some silver linings too.
In all honesty, many of the bad situations were due to my failings as you don’t get dumped thrice before August for nothing but hey on the plus side three relationships are better than none surely.
The latter relationship was a life changing experience in many ways from my first real kiss to the first time i had felt truly in love with someone.
The typical thing after a break-up is to throw your mind to work but even that has been a horror story this year having been threatened with the sack twice and also having major disputes with co-workers.
The thought I’ve carried around the last few months is why bother getting paid a great wage when I’m not really good enough for the job (don’t think many will disagree with me here) and when it’s a job that I hate more than enjoy all things considered.
Previous readers of my blog and people I know may be thinking ‘Oh what a surprise Simon is negative and miserable as always.’
But you know what’s so great, I have sat here writing the last few sentences with a smile on my face because as much as I could apologise to those I have hurt or angered this year – what’s done is done and unless I meet a time traveller it can’t be changed the same as the positives can’t.
A few keywords come to mind in terms of the highlights for the year – Technology, Sport and Education.
Technology – I entered the 3D age with amazing results the best being Avatar and Liverpool V Chelsea and successfully completed the recovery of my laser eye surgery – perfect eyesight only took me 11 years to reach and was £4500 well spent. I kept with the iPhone 3G despite the numerous upgrades on the market but spent near £1200 on Xbox additions from the slim line console to the Kinect sensor. You could say I used more money than sense but I was always told that you can’t take it with you so why not enjoy yourself.
Sport – Ok as a ‘kopite’ I daren’t say this year has been good as it hasn’t but at least the club has new and hopefully more trustworthy owners and a new manager who probably won’t win anything but is at least trying (cue the Hodgson bashing) meaning any improvement is good news for Liverpool next year. The smile was there as a Warriors fan though, having predicted a Grand final win as I bought tickets in March to see it bear fruit in front of 70,000 at Old Trafford in October was electric. It has inspired me to get myself out to more games next season starting with the World Club Challenge on 27th February, turning 24 and seeing an amazing Warriors side on the world stage in the same weekend should be superb.
Education – Learning from many mistakes and also trying to learn to drive (test pending) have been the spine of this year and hopefully will lead to a good 2011.
On that note it leaves me to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for 2011 as I hope to make it a fantastic 12 months.
